2 services. 1 generator

I want to put in 1 generator to feed buildings about 500’ apart. 1 building is a diesel fire pump building (control panel, heat, lights, rec) and the other is a small residential building that needs gen backup for fire protection. I would have 2 breakers in the generator that feed an ATS for both buildings (one of them being SE Rated). I feel it is fine just need to nail down any switching of the neutrals. Other option would be to just feed the fire pump building from the resi building. But then you are running normal and gen feeds 500’ back and forth. Thoughts?

The SE transferswitch would be at fire pump building, as it would be the larger load, a transferswitch with the switched neutral would be required at the other building. Keep in mind, the fire pump must be able to start and run on the generator along with the other loads on the other transferswitch, if not, those loads must be shed with a shunt trip breaker at the generator, and tied to the fire pump controller so that when the pump is running, those loads are dropped.

Thanks. It is a diesel FP so not much load with everything considered and would be sized for everything

Don’t let them forget they need to fill the diesel tank every once in a while! I had a new DC that had a diesel fire pump, they called and said it wouldn’t run. Got there, low fuel alarm was going off, tapped on the day tank, it was empty. They had a frozen sprinkler line that busted, and burned all of the fuel out, and didn’t have any arrangements to refill the tank! LOL!
