kitchen lighting question

Hello everyone,
I understand that kitchen lighting cannot be tied into the two small appliance circuits. However, can the kitchen lighting come off of the dining room or the living room circuit?
Thanks,
Matt

I think a better way to say it that dining room receptacles are, by definition, on a SABC and must meet those requirements.

They do not have to be supplied by one of the SABCs serving kitchen receptacles.

Yes correct. I fixed my initial response.

So, am I correct in that you are saying that the kitchen lighting can be tied into the living room circuit, and not the dining room circuit?
The dining room receptacles are required to be on a SABC so the kitchen lighting cannot be on that circuit. The kitchen lighting can be on with a dining room lighting circuit or the circuit serving the living lighting and/or receptacles.

Do yourself a favor and don't put any lighting on with any circuit using 12-2 NM. The 12-2 can quickly eat up box fill on switches, especially multi-gang switch boxes. Only exceptions might be the bathroom & bedroom circuits.
I just find it easier to put all lighting on a 15A circuit with #14 NM. You can put lighting for several areas on one circuit. Example, kitchen, dining room, living room, on one circuit.
You will thank yourself by using the #14 in switch boxes.
