1/2" Romex connector how many cables in one NEC violation?

I think some are listed for two and some are not. Do you have the box the clamps came in so you can research them and provide documentation? These nit picky things are annoying, as just because wasn't tested for a condition doesn't mean it is unsafe. Especially if others tested and theirs work fine and look just like the non tested ones.

Could be a classic case of "because I can"

I think I found the site. Its a southwire romex product The site kinda contradicts itself though. At the top it list its good for two #14/2 and single 12/2 12/3. At the bottom the chart says its good for two #12/2. Which is it??

I'd circle the note at the bottom of the chart and show the inspector that. Something else that doesn't seem clear is are these for NM or NM-B? Those cables are different sizes now. If it would take two of the old thicker NM, it should easily take two of the newer skinnier NM-B. Or how about UF cable?

Saw a residential job where they were 'nit' picky on some thnigs.
Thats picky alright, I would not want to be bendnig EMT for that foreman, If I got that picky the crew would take my last tool away (coffee mug) or worse change the radio station.
When I look at resi job and see more than two cables coming out of a single connector then I look closer to see whats up

Yes, way better.
I had a helper tighten a connector until it pinched the single 12/2. Didn’t think it possible but he proved me wrong.
Had a friend that did that on a dishwasher romex. Kept kicking the breaker.
Took the washer back before we seen what he had done....

UF has it's own type connector if used outside.

I remember on this job, the inspector told me that the pop-ins were only rated for two cables, so I went home and called the manufacture (Halex?) and they told me they were rated for only one cable each.

I changed them the next day to two cables each. :sneaky:

For some reason Halex makes it darn near impossible to find that information. Arlington easy to find.

My opinion, this is the crap that needs to stop.

I mean, how uninspiring and insipid of a life must one lead, when the big issue is 3 romex in a miniature plastic sleeve? 🙄😳

Judas Priest.

I had a box of the Halex plastic snap in. This is the first time I tried them. It is love/hate with me. The good is they snap in quick. I hold my plier flat surface on them and give the pliers a rap with the hammer. Took me a min to figure that out. Its sometimes difficult to push the cable in and I give the cable a yank with my pliers but a couple of times I pulled it too hard and pulled out too much slack:cool::cool::cool::cool:.and you can't pull the cable backwards have to cut the connector and take it out. I looked on the box and they don't show #of cables. I only put one cable. Some of it is 14/3. I hope the connectors are good for that.

The two screw connectors I always thought you could put 2 12-2s or 14-2s in them with no issue.

has anyone brought up the derating required if you go over 2 cables through a fitting? it's a bit of a grey area, but 334 talks about more than 2 cables when not keeping distancing. inspectors around here used to push it.

Nothing I see in 334 about more than one cable in a fitting needing derating. Only thing mentioned about derating for more than two cables without spacing is through bored holes in wood framing that is to be fire caulked, and more than two cables through thermal insulation without spacing.

Through a bored hole that is to be fire caulked, you can still have up to 4 cables before the derating would take it down below the listed amperage. That's because you could have up to nine CCC before derating would effect the OCP size.
