10-2, 8-2, and 6-2 Romex cables

I think the black, white, is from the transition from the knob-n-tube days. If you get into some old work, cloth/rubber coating you will find that the wire could have a white and/or colored tracer.
As far as color codes other than orange,white,gray,strip, I have used all one color (not Romex) and pre identified
Or had to ring them out. We had a guy that would pull max pipe fulls and never mark anything, shop loved him "he can pull a lot of wire quickly ". Controls can be all one color.
We are Pros not handymen. Stop making the code a guide book for the untrained.
 
I'm still waiting for sheath color coding for #8 and #6 NM. The two digits that are hardest to discern, 8 and 6, even worse when dot-printed, and they make the sheath and print the same colors! :rant:

I can see it may be difficult for some, but I have run so much 6 and 8 that I seldom have had trouble telling them apart just by grabbing the conductor. Pretty much the same for 14 and 12 also.
