What is the smallest conductor size that can be used on a 100 amp service? Contractor plans on using 3- 3/0. I think they might be a bit off on their plans.

Re: 100 Amp Service

The service entrance conductors are sized for the calculated load. If the calculated size does not correspond with a standard size, the next standard size can be used.
Is the 3/0 copper or Aluminum?
Is there a concern with voltage drop?
Is it a single family or commerical service?

Re: 100 Amp Service

3/0 copper is good for 200A at 75 degree C. Are you sure the plans didn't call for #3 AWG, which is good for 100A at 75 degrees C?

Re: 100 Amp Service

Just got a call from the A/E grp. They meant to make it a 200 amp service. All is well once again. Thanks for your help guys!

Re: 100 Amp Service

What do you mean by size of ground? Do you mean the grounding electrode conductor? This can vary depending on the particular electrode that will be connected. Section 250.66 requires a minimum of #4 for your GEC, but a #6 is all that is required for a ground rod connection.
Does that answer your question?
