What I was trying to point out is that none of us has any real evidence that the Noalox does a darn thing but get our hands dirty.

I see plenty of AL to AL connections made without it that last fine.

We use it 'cause we always have' which is not a good enough answer for me.

I once had a six-bay garage associated with some dwelling units, that had it's own service. I installed the lateral conductors (AL), had the branch circuits installed in an all-in-one metermain. The inspector had just gotten done with the dwelling units, and I asked him if he was ready to look at the garages, as he was walking back to his truck.

He indicated he was running late, and had a sticker in his hand. He gave me a sideways look, looked at the garages from his truck, and said, "Did you put De-Ox on the conductors?"

I had, but the question took me aback a bit. Of all the pertinent questions or inspection points to consider, the one that rose to the top was De-Ox. That just baffled me. :?

I agree that some of the questions asked are strange.

A few weeks ago I had a rough inspection on a small store, an MC cable job and the only question from the the inspector was:

Did you use red heads?

The answer was yes but if I had said no I wonder where that would have taken me.

Kind of frustrating that he did not IMO really look at the job but he wanted red heads.
