Sorry I might be a little late to the party. Let me know if I can help in more ways than this.

Sorry didn't realize that this wasn't allowed considering there was an earlier post with an product link.

Also I was really just looking to help the OP with the question. Sorry if I offended.

I have a rancher that has his hydraulic squeeze chute being operated by a 10HP motor. He has a 50-amp crows foot receptacle that he plugs it into, using that as his on/off switch 🙄.
He is concerned about it sparking when he unplugs it... Thinks maybe something is wrong with it....

Obviously he needs a better setup.

Is there a HP rated disconnect switch that would work for this setup or do I need to go to a contactor?
I think FLA was 60a if that sounds right?
Thanks
Perhaps this would have been a better response.

"You may want to consider doing a google search for switch-rated plugs and receptacles."

Better.

The devices I've used in the past were very expensive with repair parts on par. Worked well until they didn't. All of what I installed have been removed by others over the years. IDK what, if anything, they use now.

Just from the posts I've read so far on this forum I've gotten the impression that most people who read and post agree that the right tool, or person, or combination of the two for the job is going to often be expensive (at least based on their personal biases of what is considered expensive). :)

I'll do better job in the future about being generic.

240v/2pole/fused/60A/3-10HP/lever/lockable/type 3R
Siemens GF222NRA

the GF223NR bumps up to 100A and a 7.5-15 HP rating.

most anyone else could have posted same link and no problem, posting product links does happen all the time. If you had a different user name you might not have had any problem doing so either, at least until it came out you possibly have direct involvement with that product.

If someone were to ask question about a specific product I think you can answer them, just not in a manner that is promoting that product over other competitor products.

I guess I was just trying to be efficient. And honest with my name so that I'm not confusing anyone on my expertise.

My intention of any post I do is to provide information.

The specific links I posted were
1. An example of another grain company using plugs to disconnect motors (this is what the OP was asking about).
2. Some examples of how to use a plug on a motor.
3. The exact 10HP product that would work for the application.

Just so happened that all of these documents were already prepared by my company so it saved me the time of doing it myself.

I guess I'm just a little "hurt" that a salesperson providing information is not as relevant/accepted as another member of the forum. I also would not have posted any of this information if I did not think it was pertinent and appropriate to the original post. Guess I'll have to learn my place.
