12/3 and 14/3 for home runs

I like 12-2-2 for certain things, like to get through a crawl space or attic with 2 circuits and I want to make it easier and cleaner for myself than trying to yank around two cables.

Otherwise yes, there is a cost premium and I too have been getting annoyed with all the untwisting.

They make 12-2-2 and 14-2-2 single cable with 2 hots and 2 neutrals
Don't know supply house price on those, you would think maybe a little better price than two 2 wire cables simply because one less EGC conductor involved, but with plastic prices driving cost up as well maybe not. What I have seen at big box stores is definitely more than using two 2 wire cables.

I use them in commercial all the time, just not residential.
Yes, and is beneficial for longer runs, even after you consider handle tie or common trip breaker. If you can't live without losing another pole when one trips or at least when it needs reset, still is a good thing.
