Thank you all for the clarification.
The load will not be over 20 amps.
I will be powering two instances of 3000 watts/240V baseboard heaters. My plan is to run 2 20 amp lines. There are 3 wall mounted tstats. All my wiring to tstats & baseboard will be coming down from attic space.
Using the 12/4 will give me a little more space in the wall boxes for my tstats.
