12 Volt fixture blues!

Having problems trouble shooting a 12v track fixture. The fixture shuts off. I replaced the dimmer switch with a common slide type to rule out a switch problem. Have replaced the transformer also. Are these type fixtures equiped with a thermal-overload device? Thanks!!

Does the wattage range xfmr match up to track head loading and line distance. rbj

Yes, the replacement transformer is the exact transformer that worked on the fixture for 5 years.

Was the replaced xfmr heat failed? The xfmr should last indefinitely if the max wiring length was not over spec and track lamping was not overloaded. rbj

I have not ruled out that the original transformer is bad. Had another new identical transformer, so just swapped it out. And yes this is a dimmable transformer.

Check you connections. If you are getting 12v at the transformer than it will be a bad connection.

In the past I have located connection problems with corrosion due to electroloyis(sp?). I may have that somewhere in the fixture? Thanks for pointing that out!

I've also seen a loose neutral on the primary of the transformer cause this problem.

U have to exceed the total load for all service, DC!
