I would appreciate if someone could help me with the correct Hi voltage/Low voltage motor lead hook up for a 480/240 Delta, 12 lead motor.

Thank you.

Re: 12 wire motor termination

Do you want the motor to be WYE connected always? Or, WYE connected for Start and DELTA connected for Run?

Then do you want the 240V or the 480V connections?

Downloadable copies of NEMA MG-1 (condensed) & 2 are available at:

http://www.nema.org/help/docno.html

They have a wealth of ?end-user? information extracted from the primary document.

Unfortunately, the answer to your question is in Section 7.3(Pg. 25) of MG-2:

?The connection of the machine to the power supply should be made by qualified personnel in accordance with the diagram or other instructions furnished by the machine manufacturer.?
The primary document, MG-1, does have a ?recommended? connection diagram, but without specific motor information, everything you get from this forum will only be speculation.

Re: 12 wire motor termination

hi voltage series connection for 12 lead delta is 4&7 tied,5&8 tied,6&9 tied. Lines to 1&12,2&10,3&11. Low voltage parralel connection is Lines 1&6&7&12,2&4&8&10,3&5&9&11. This is the standard NEMA connection for 12 lead delta for normal across the line starting. Hope this helps and if you need further help send me an e mail. Joe

Stew is correct for a delta connected motor. But dont confuse a delta supply to mean that the motor is delta also. You might have a delta supply but the motor might be wye connected. if wye then the hi or 480 connection would be series connection for 12 lead delta is 4&7 tied and taped,5&8 tied and taped,6&9 tied and taped, 10,11,12 tied and taped and Lines to 1,2,3.For 240 volt 4,5,6,10,11,12 tied and taped. Line 1 to 1 and 7, line 2 to 2 and 8, and line 3 to 3 and 9. Two speed motors can have 12 leads brought out. Anyway the real fun comes in when some of the lead markings get lost. The main thing here is to look at your motor speed, horsepower and amp ratings and wiring diagram before you do your connections. NEMA MG-1 2003 Part 2 pages 27 thru 33 show these standard conections.
