Hello everyone, new to the site but would like to discus a couple of issues deling with GFI breakers on kitchen equipment and food service equipment.
A good customer of mine has recently changed their design on a C Store and the Engineer is specifying GFI breakers on all 120v Single Phase and 120/208v split and 3 phase equipment, that deals with all their food and drink products.

1) Some of these outlets are not in or near the kitchen area, which I believe is over kill and beyond the code requirements?
2) All of their ice machines and drink dispensers have also been placed on gfi breakers. Not sure if that is necessary?
3) The 3 phase dishwasher and the pizza ovens do not work off the gfi breakers. They constantly trip the breakers.

Can anyone comment on what areas would need GFI Protection and if there is anything to be done about the breakers that trip constantly.

I can give more detailed explinations, if needed.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the Forum.

What to do about equipment that is tripping the GFCIs? Have it repaired or replaced.

There are some small shaded pole motors that do trip GFCIs even when they are protecting other items. Often enough on different branch circuits. This occurs as the the power is cycled Off to the motor. For me it was in a residence using nonmetallic sheathed cable. IDK if has happened in areas using EMT or MC. There are several threads touching on this.

I used an RCS7A-6V from RK Electronics at the fan motor to solve my problem.

IMO, you should probably become accustomed to the expanded use of GFCIs. They work.

Your conditions 1 and 2 might not require it under current codes, but don't be surprised if someday they will.

You either have a ground fault in those items or some other transient (as mentioned can be from outside the GFCI protected circuit) that doesn't play well with the GFCI.
