The disconnect is only to provide disconnecting means for the unit equipment - the HVAC on the roof... So that the Tin Dinger can service the unit*. (Not to open a can of worms - but why not... Mounting it to the unit itself is done by many.... *A practice which I do not see as very wise since servicing often means replacement, but compliant as 440.14 is written - but there it is.... ;)) The required outlet (in 210.63) is there for them to provide needed power to do so. So shutting it off, as well as the unit equipment would itself be a violation in a round about way....

It is a equipment disconnecting means, not an equipment replacing means. :)

Which makes me very happy as most of the RTUs we wire come with factory installed disconnect switches inside the unit with a handle accessible outside the unit.

Nothing round about it, the receptacle can not be supplied from the load side of the disconnect. :)

You know what I mean Bob - right? Being called out because there is a crane waiting to rip the unit off the roof with the feeder still on it.... ;) Most of the units I have seen in the past - haven't done too many as of late - don't have integral disco's, just lugs to feed... But as for the receptacle - there is nothing specifically written about that as such - unless I'm missing something? But it would defeat the purpose agreed?
