That is exactly what the company I work for does, we pull the MV cables but hire a sub to terminate them.
Most likely a cost savings. If you are a meticulous sort, I have no doubt you could do a good job of it. The catch is that folks who do this regularly can do it much faster and assume the liability to boot.

As I understand it our jobs have required trained people and testing.

So yes, a cost savings as we don't need to do it that often.

I have never seen a pad mount that did not use plug in elbows for the HV. Of course I have not seen it all.

If the OP wants to 'go for it' maybe they can, we will not and that sounds like a very bad idea.

I found some! :D:p:) This is very common for some POCOs.

True, but this does not mean other POCOs do not use them. Personally, however, I think NG is doing the right by going with elbos for all pads, an extra layer of safety IMO.
