Re: 15 Amp Recepticle on a 20 Amp Circuit

The other problem is in table 210.21(B)(2) or table 210.21(B)(3) and table 210.24 all list 30,40 and 50 amp receptacles. if these tables are for two or more receptacles how many would put more than one 50 amp receptacle on a circuit? I don't think I have ever put more than one per circuit. so even this does not make sense? Yes maybe for a welder but there is a exception for that?

Iwire:

I do agree with you. The 30A receptacle is allowed on a 15A circuit. My point was that it is not allowed to plug anything into that receptacle (as if the Code can really prevent your average layman from plugging in a load that is too large).

Hurk: My mistake, it would be a 15A circuit. I should have quoted 210.23(A)(1). It is the same principle. If a device has a 30A plug, it probably takes more than 12 Amps of current. It is a code violation for "Joe Blow" to plug that 30A compressor into that 30A receptacle that Iwire legally installed.

Isn't that strange

Bob, it kills me to admit this but I think you are correct and I was wrong (guys aren't supposed to admit when they are wrong, are they?). :D
