Where would i find what size anchoring bolt i would need for this size transformer. I checked the paperwork that came with the unit and unlike switchgear it had nothing. Jobsite specs dont have anything referencing anchor sizing either. My guess would be 1/2" but would like some back up info. thanks, John

I'd probably use at least 5/8 if not 3/4, but I don't know where you'd find sizing requirements.

That's a lot of mass to be slamming around in an earthquake. I'm sure there's some bolt down formula for seismic anchoring, but I have no idea what it is.

Trans hanging in air

Trans hanging in air

Well we hang transformers everyday on pads or in the air we hang by electrical engineers specs details or we engineer and submit details to engineer for approval of . If were up in the ceiling we go by strength of the anchor nothing less than 3/8 anchors and rods for small transformers like 15 kva but 112.5 kva or 150kva they get into 1000lb or high range so its 1/2 or 5/8 rod and anchors or beam clamps to steel beams above . Most jobs never see anything more than a 225 kva up high in the air . We use 1 inch on them and also build a 1 1/2 or 3 kindroff rack under it double criss crossing and most jobs we use spring rods and hangers kinda like the vibration hangers there colored by weight and size on a pad we use springs or cork pads . look at the weight to the support its common sense . all engineers make a bigg deal out of a simple hanging transformer but its load and support do it good and your ok . best to ya
