Can we put a 15A single pole switch on a 20A general circuit in a dwelling unit?

I can't find the article to allow/disallow this...

T210.21(B)(2) allows a 15A recept. on a #12 with a 20A CB....how does that translate into switches?

Covered under 210.23(A)?

(Having a little mental flatulence :D )

If it can carry the load yes.Like maybe 10 amps worth of lights, sure.

Biggest draw on any particular switch is 3 recessed cans @75W per.

Kind of drawing a blank looking at the NEC...lots of words, not many of them making any sense to me today.

Then your fine.We do it all the time.I would stat to rethink if load came near 15 but legal to load it to 15.If someone later adds more to it then thats not your problem.Think of it as a disconnect.

Jim because this is going to be on a continuous load circuit do you have to factor in using the switch at 80 % of it's rating or not ??
