2 wire start conductors with power conductors

They would have to be 600 volt rated, and Generac is the only manufacturer that I know of that allows them to be run with the power conductors. Cummins and Kohler require them to be in a separate conduit. Alarm wiring can also be in the same conduit.

Is there an NEC issue or is this just manufacturer instructions?
To answer that you would need to know if the start circuit is a Class 1 circuit or a Class 2 circuit.
Given that most of the start circuits I have seen use the generator starting battery as the control power, it would be a Class 1 circuit and could be mixed as long as the control circuit conductors have an insulation equal or greater than the voltage of power circuit.
