20 amp rated switch tapped off a 60 amp riser feed

Can you tell me if NEC allows a 20 amp rated switch to be tapped of a 60 amp riser feeder and then to a 20 amp fuse holder then to a FCU? This will all occur within 10' of the tap.

I'm guessing Fan Coil Unit.

Are you talking about type S plug fuses or class G fuses? For ordinary cartridge fuses you have a problem with somebody sticking in a larger fuse such as hooking up a second load.

Actually it would be a small glass fuse or something of this type. It would have to rated for 300 volts. You know, a small tube type fuse in a turn in holder.

My real question is would the switch be permisble as a 20 amp rated switch, even though it is a 60 amp protected circuit? It would be cost prohibitive to try to install a 60 amp rated switch.

I think so. The tap conductors are reverse protected, the switch would be protected by the same principle.

I don't like 'em taps. They tricky an' gimme de heebie jeebies. :)
