I’m a retired electrician ( 20 years ). I am going to upgrade my service. If the disconnect next to your meter is now your service. Then the panel inside is a sub panel. So you could use 2/0 copper for your service but do you now need to use 3/0 copper to run inside to your panel from the disconnect ?

The '83% rule' applies to service conductors _and_ feeders that supply the entire load of a dwelling.

Additionally feeder conductors are not required to be larger than the service conductors.

So if you have a 200A outside disconnect supplied with 2/0 Cu, you could run 2/0 Cu to a subpanel inside.

Thank you Jon. I’ve been retired 20 years , stopped working at 50 because of an injury. Never worked on houses besides my own.
