200 amp main hot to the touch all wires are tight in the box could it be a loose neutral in the meter base or the main going bad i'm use to new construction I try to avoid old stuff but I live here

Any help would be great

sounds like the cables from the meter may be suspect. Is the meter hot, or just the main, in either case you need to have it checked out. Is this a residence? Is it possible that the service is too small? If not your main lugs may have too much resistance.

How hot is hot? Most breakers are rated for a 40?C rise over ambient. That will be very hot to the touch.

Do you mean that the main breaker in the main panel inside the house is hot, or that some other component is hot? What else is hot? Have you checked the current at any point in the system, to see if there is excessive current flowing somewhere (perhaps a ground fault)?

more info is needed. Is it always Hot? How much current is flowing? Any signs of water having gotten into the panel?

whats the loaad? you could have a bad breaker? if the load is a constant 140 or 150 amps the breaker is going to be "hot"! if the load is light and the temperature is "hot" there is a problem---where it is would require an infrared camera!

Re: 200 amp main hot to the touch

The last time I had this problem it was a loose lug on the breaker, and you could not tell it with the wires in the breaker as they will hold the lug in place and not allow movement. It was only after pulling the meter and removing the wires that I found it. but after the heat I still replaced the breaker as the metal was discolored.
