How the hell can you charge by the amp?

What if you have a 200 amp service that runs 50 feet into the panel, a 20' riser, and the water main is 50 feet accross the finished basement.

Or a 200 amp service with a panel back to back with the meter, a 10' riser, and the water main right next to the panel.
 
We have had easy ones and we have had the hard ones.From history I find that I send a two man crew to do any service and it gets done in a day with few exceptions.I usually bid at 18 man hours plus material with a 20% markup and permit fees.I win some I lose some.

On a basic, no frills service with a 2" riser, new meter base, nipple to the new 200A panel, and re-terminate using existing circuit wires, upsize the ground, and a couple of LITTLE details - yeah that's $2000. Outside disconnect, remote panel location, anything else adds to that. A lot.

I can't understand charging by the amp either.

What if a customer who only needs a 100 amp service change would like to go to 200 for the heck of it. His price doubles from 1000 - $2000 for the extra $150 in material?

So if I want a 200amp service it would be $2,000.
If I want a 150amp service it would be $1,500.
If I want a 100amp service it would be $1,000.

Is this correct?

I can't see dropping the price $500 to do a 150amp service.
 
I'm almost afraid to ask: How much to swap a panel out?

How does one calculate that :-?
By the amp?
By the difference in panel physical size?

[I know how I do it ;)]

I have tried to charge that, and more, with no results. I guess I should have said "my 200 amp installs average 10/amp", and no, I won't do a 100 amp install for $1000. But for me, I get $2000 for a basic sevice, and it does me well. I would certainly love to make more off of each one, but around here, it ain't happening. At what I charge, I've been called pricey, but I won't do it for less.
