I am upgrading from a 100 amp to 200 amp service. What I am wondering is if I can change the main breaker in the breaker panel or do I need to change the whole box? Thank you

Re: 200 amp service

If you panel is rated for 100 amps then thats all the load you can put on the panel. The bus bars are rated for 100 amps. You need to change the panel to one rated for 200 amps.

Re: 200 amp service

I can't say for sure, but I doubt a 200A main breaker would fit in any panelboard rated less than 200A. In any case, I agree with two previous posts.

Go to the main page in any topic area (such as this one, the Engineering / Calculations topic area), and look in the FAQ section at the top of the page.

I am putting a temporary hold on this thread.
