My boss is looking into purchasing wire with a colored finish for a big service for a 20-plex. Just to get an idea, they're looking at around 3 parallel laterals of 350, or something like that. Not important.

What I'd like to have assurance on is that there is no change for 2005, that all conductors can be black and re-identified by phase and neutral. He heard a rumor otherwise. He said (I hear this all second-hand) that colored wire wasn't much more expensive, but I find that hard to believe, considering the size.

Using tape is still allowed.

I am not aware of color conductors costing any premium at all, well at least not for Green, White, Yellow, Brown, Orange, Red, and Blue. In the past year most (all?) manufacturers offer large conductors with colored insultation.

jim. Are you saying that all manufactures offer colors outer jackets on larger wire now? And it doesn't cost more? I haven't heard of this and will check into it myself. I would wuch rather have color conductors than using tape. Tape comes off sometimes or the workers take it off and forget to retape. Thank you for the heads up.
