My 2005 NEC CD-Rom has crapped out. Won't work at all. Now what? Does anyone know if the NFPA will exchange the old one for a new one?

The NEC? No shot.

NFPA? Maybe. Shoot 'em an email and see how they respond.

I had sort of an important CD that wouldn't read. I took it to one of those stores where kids trade in X-Box and Playstation games. They polished it on some machine of theirs for about 2 dollars. Works good as new now. EB Games and Game Stop are two such chain stores. I think I took it to an EB Games.

I have cleaned with a soft cloth but that's it. Are there better ways to clean these things or should I do as Marc said and bring it to a place?

You could likely copy it at slow speed read and burn a new disc

I was under the impression that these disc's cannot be easily copied.

I have found it easy to clone almost any cd or dvd.Since you paid for it i would not call it a copyright violation.Try the suggested ways of cleaning.Rubbing alcohol has worked great for me.Clean then copy.Good luck.

Some Cd's have a bar code on the inner circle. You can copy the cd with no problem but it won't work unless you can duplicate the bar code.

It's too bad they don't allow it to be copied to the hard drive-- or is that an option?
