Have to run 120/240 vac feeder, 4 wire, (3) 2/0 w/#6cu from 200a main disco
(outside) to breaker panel for manuf. home. It is a 65' run under the home to the panel. (no slab, just frost piers) Can I direct bury or does it all (other than conduit stub to protect the wire) have to be in conduit (THWN). I am confused by "outside of the building".

Here in NC we have to install shc 80 pvc or better have bushings at bottom of pipe in the ground at both ends and cover wires over with at least a foot of dirt and install red danger tape tied off at both ends. Some counties want a 90 on the end for bending radius to be maintained. I`m sorry I don`t have all the code references. The 90 fittings are a stretch but I can`t remember the artical I was sighted for but I remember calling and couldn`t get it over turned in a timely manner.I`d check with the AJH for sure.

Thanks for the reply. I looked at 230.6 and figured it doesn't apply to feeders, then went to 300.5 D 1-4 and under a building required conduit.

So I guess a manufactured home meets the definition of a building........
'a structure that stands alone'. That means conduit. Actually a mobile home is called a 'structure'.

Will be meeting with the POCO soon, no AHJ, no inspections where I am in IA.
I'll try to get his opinion on structure vs building. My first manuf home.

I usually strap the conduit to the trailer frame if I am under the trailer and then LB up into the panel.

550 for manufactured homes.

No need for burrying this feeder at all. In conduuit under the chasis and you're good to go. I won't provide the strapping methods, becuase the two states I work in have different requirements.

Your disco for this building is the service if within 30 ft of the home.

I just installed a 200A "Manufactured Home" service a few weeks ago.

I hung 2" PVC conduit from the steel framing using 2" mineralacs, 1/4" all thread, and beam clamps., and swung a elbow up into the house panel.

At one or two places I had to extend the all thread up to the wood floor joists to maintain the (5' maximum) support spacing.
I simply cut the vapor barrier underneath the home, attached a "L" clip to the joist for fastening the all thread and then used duct tape to repair the vapor barrier.

I had all of the (30') pipe installed in less than a hour.
I glued all of the pipe together, installed all of the pipe hangers under the house, and then slid the pipe under the house, held it up and clamped it.

I was able to push the 4/0AL feeder thru the conduit and up into the panel.

The house had skirting all around, so I didn't think expansion wasn't a problem.....neither did the inspector.

As mentioned....around here anyway.
The Main disconnect will be mounted on a outside pole and the conductors under the house are Feeder Conductors.

I say yes. See site Sun. Tell them I need contact info. (3 POCOs in this area). Yesterday 4 PM. HO stops by give me contact, says house is coming Tue. Call POCO, all OK, call HO, give em price. HO says, got someone else cheaper, thanks. Next........:grin:
