There is no exception such as with garages and basements where receptacles are not readily accessible, so I would do it. Probably depends on the AHJ....

That exception no longer exists.


GFCI protected within six feet of the sink regardless of height.

Yes, if it is within 6' of the outer edge of the sink. IMSO

There is no exception such as with garages and basements where receptacles are not readily accessible

Those exceptions were removed for the 2008 NEC.
