2012 International Energy Code

For residential new construction, per the 2012 Energy Code (which is what energy code cycle Iowa is on) you are required to have an air barrier around electrical and phone boxes on exterior walls, or install air sealed boxes. Those of you who are following the energy code, how are you satisfying this requirement?

The insulators would squirt foam into the holes where the cables entered the box and they would also foam the backside of the box.

That was my suggestion as an alternative. They're sealing holes in the top plate anyway, so i figured it would be a relatively easy solution.

Are you asking about the 2021 IECC?

If so, NEMA OS4 boxes are required for any new box installed in the building thermal envelope
