Greetings Everyone,

I just recently completed another service upgrade and the inspector is citing 230.62 (C) because there is not a rubber guard/barrier on the line side of the service disconnect. This is my first time encountering this code violation. It's a 100-amp outdoor service rated Square D QO disconnect with 100-amp circuit breaker. I searched the internet near and far and could not find one. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Brian

Thr last service disconnect that I purchased (Eaton) came with them. What is the model number of the service disconnect?

Like these? They came with the panel.

Have you tried the orange store?

Yes, I like Eaton Products but in some applications for smaller houses I like to use the Square D QO disconnects because aesthetically, they look better. I did see the yellow barriers, but I think there manufactured for older panels, however I could be wrong.

"Compatible with QO and Homeline load centers, series S0_ (100 Amp - 225 Amp) model QOM2 main circuit breaker"

"Retrofittable to most existing Square D Homeline and QO load centers"

If the service disconnect is list as identified as suitable for use as service equipment then it should come with them.

The barriers in the link above are for QOM2 225 amp frame breakers. If the breaker is a QOM 125 amp frame its a different model.

What is a QO disconnect? An enclosure with a single 100 amp breaker? Part number, picture or link?

QO2100BNB is listed on page 1-50 of Square D's catalog under "Non-Service Entrance Enclosed Devices". The service entrance devices are listed on the previous page, 1-49. For 100A, that would be a QO2200RBE enclosure (which sized for up to 200A) plus a QO2BL22100 breaker (for 10k AIR; available up to 100k AIR , the B changes to a different letter).

Cheers, Wane

That doesn't appear to be service rated which may be the reason why it didn't come with the barriers.
It says it is in the product description.

The Square D by Schneider Electric QO Outdoor Circuit Breaker Enclosure accepts QO two-pole breakers up to 100 Amps and is suitable for use as service entrance equipment. This device is rated Type-3R for outdoor use. This enclosure accepts a B-Hub for top feed applications (Circuit Breakers and B-Hubs sold separately). For non-service entrance equipment applications, ground bar PKOGTA-2 may be needed and is sold separately.

According to post #16, it is service rated per mfg.
Well, that disagrees with what the manufacturer's catalog says, so I would think further clarification from the manufacturer is in order.

My understanding is a single double breaker enclosure, with line side and load side lugs, a neutral bar insulated from the case, and a ground bar tied to the case is not SUSE if there is no factory provided way to connect the neutral bar to the case. So my initial inference is that QO2200RBE does not have any such factory provision. Maybe they offer a kit to add it?

Obviously adding a properly sized wire-type MBJ between the neutral and ground bars would do the same thing electrically. But 230.66 requires the service equipment to be "marked to identify it as being suitable for use as service equipment." And if my recollection is correct that the listing standard only allows that marking if there is a permanent (SOUSE) or removable (SUSE) N-G bond, then you'd have a technical violation using a field made wire-type MBJ.

Anyway, given 230.66, the OP can just read the label of the QO2200RBE and see if it states it is SUSE.

Cheers, Wayne
