110.14(C) is confusing in that it uses the phrase "termination provisions" (which is not a defined term and not used anywhere in the NEC other than in reference to 110.14(C)) in two different ways. I believe this was an oversight unintentionally introduced in the 2002 NEC when the reference to Table 310.16 was added. The light edits below regularize the use the term and makes the intent clearer.

Cheers, Wayne

110.14 (C) Temperature Limitations
The temperature rating associated with the ampacity of a conductor shall be selected and coordinated so as not to exceed the lowest temperature rating of any connected termination, conductor, or device. Conductors with temperature ratings higher than specified for terminations shall be permitted to be used for ampacity adjustment, correction, or both.

(1) Equipment Provisions
The determination use of termination provisions of equipment shall be based on 110.14(C)(1)(a) or (C)(1)(b). Unless the equipment is listed and marked otherwise, conductor ampacities used in determining with equipment termination provisions shall be based on Table 310.16 as appropriately modified by 310.12.

Statement

In the UL guide info for AALZ that 110.14(C) partially incorporates into the NEC, and in the rest of 110.14(C), the term "termination provisions" is used to mean terminals or other provisions for the connection of field installed conductors.

However, the use of the words "determination" and "determining" with that meaning could lead to the conclusion that 110.14(C)(1) first paragraph is talking about how to select such terminals when constructing such equipment, rather than about how the terminals of equipment are to be used with conductors, and the resulting limitations imposed on those conductors. The light edits suggested bring the use of the term "termination provisions" in this paragraph in line with its use elsewhere, as described above.
