this has come up the other day. can you tap of a 50 amp branch circuit to run a microwave. as Dave has pointed out, a recptical would have to compliy with table 210.24. correct me if I am wrong, but I think that the word tap means "hard wire". I.E. add a new range or cooking device to a 50 amp circuit. but you would still have to go to 21.20(A)that send you to 240.3 that goes to 422.11(A) that says that the OCD can not exceed name plate rating... Not that this exption lets you come of a exsiting 50 amp rang plug and feed what ever you want if you hard wire it in. if any one has another veiw on branch taps pleas share. (spell check is not working, I was out that day we coverd spelling).

As I take it, the tap would have to be hard wired to a cook top or another oven unit, not to a 20amp rececptacle.
As for 422.11(A) that would apply to any appliance, and override 210.19
