210.63 Heating, Air-Conditioning, and Refrigeration Equipment Outlet.

A 125-volt, single-phase, 15- or 20-ampere-rated receptacle outlet shall be installed at an accessible location for the servicing of heating, air-conditioning, and refrigeration equipment. The receptacle shall be located on the same level and within 7.5 m (25 ft) of the heating, air-conditioning, and refrigeration equipment. The receptacle outlet shall not be connected to the load side of the equipment disconnecting means.

If this has been discussed before sorry.

Has anyone fail an inspection because the outlet was not within 25' of the basement furnace?

Or do inspectors check for this?

Reading the violation thread got me thinking.

25' is a LONG way inside a house...and there is no mention of said recept. being "seperate" or dedicated". ( I am assuming you mean at a dwelling unit)

I've never been called on it.

I have heard inspectors say the they would fail this if the receptacle was over a deck that was only one step above grade, even if it was within the 25 foot.

Seems a bit extreme to me, but we know you can't apply common sense. You can only enforce what the words say.

Yes, it is well enforced in my area. I've never been failed for it personally, because there's always the required receptacle come inspection time.

I look for it and know that almost every inspector in my area does too. And I've been failed for when the inspector thought I didn't do it. He didn't see it as it was camouflaged by insulated wall.
