For the life of me I can't find the optional calcualtions for determing existing loads or it's exception in the 2005 code. Did they take it out or had it been relocated to some place completely different?

I have Understanding the NEC Volume 1 from Mike Holt's illustrated guide and it stops at 220.85 with nothing after that. I called them to tell them 220.87 is missing and they tell me there isn't a 220.87. What do you think is going on?

The Mike Holt guide is not all-inclusive. It states that somewhere in the first few pages. Perhaps the person you spoke with is just not familiar with the NEC change from the 2002 to 2005. I can assure you 220.87 exists!

Thanks

WOW! I was using the 1999 NEC Handbook and wanted an update to the 2005. I called Mike Holt's company who I really respect and asked if they had something equal to that and they sold me both volumes. I was noticing that some things weren't there, but thought maybe it was because of the updated code. Then I happened to have someone mention that 220.35 was moved to 220.87 in which I noted that it was not in my new book. I called the sales department and asked about it and he said there wasn't a 230.87 and then referred me to this post.
Know that I read the introduction it tells me this is only a companion and not intended as a replacement! I guess I now have to go purchase the 2005 Code book again. Any ways thanks for clearing everything up for me.

Again?

No one but the NFPA can provide the code.

Mike Holt's, Stallcups and even the NEC Handbook are all companions to the NEC full of peoples opinions of the NEC. None of these sources hide this info. They are not trying to scam you out of your money.

If you intend to apply the NEC to your work go out and buy the latest NEC each time it comes out. Relying on an outdated NEC or a NEC 'opinion book' will bite you in the rear.
