Just curious as to how many actually use this compared to just using the “standard method” or “optional method” when doing a load calculation on an existing home.

Just from reading and looking at it, it seems as it would come up to a smaller total value than the other two methods. Which I guess would be nice when seeing if you have the extra ampacity for additional new loads.

The only time I've done a residential load calculation was on a 15 unit apartment building rewire with service upgrade. Once. In 2005

I use the optional method for new construction since I can never get the trades to provide nameplate ratings.
If I can get to the existing prior to a demo for remo, I try to use the standard method. Never had an issue with optional plus 10% tho.
