I just don't understand the complexity of installing a gfi within 6' of a laundry sink....

It is not complex. I just feel it isn't necessary. Firstly, One would need to put a GFI breaker in that situation (behind a washer that is built in under a counter). They are not cheap. I do custom homes and 99% of them are T&M, but I don't see the need to throw away others money. More than that I am trying to understand the code panels rational for allowing a receptacle under a kitchen sink but not under a laundry sink. I am guessing that there intent was to cover receptacles on the counter where there is accessibilty to others near the sink.

That would be my guess as well... I do alot of laundry rooms installed in bathrooms, do I like/feel the need for a gfi? If behind a washer than no way, but not much you can do about it... and speaking of throwing peoples money away what about AFCI's?

Perhaps it is because not all laundry's have either counter tops or under counter spaces. If they could count on laundry's having counters than maybe the rules would have been the same as the rules for kitchens.

But in the end I agree with stickboy, just put the thing in and move on.

Next code cycle you will be putting Arc-faults on almost every branch circuit, the GFCIs will seem cheap then.
