220V in Wiremold?

Hello all.

I am trying to get a heater circuit moved from (stupid) ceiling heat to a standard baseboard.

GC is telling me the electrical code prohibits running 220V in Wiremold.

Seems either wrong or excessively cautious.

From what I’ve seen in buildings almost everywhere, Wiremold is even used for 277V lighting circuits.

Jurisdiction is City of Seattle.

You are correct and unless Seattle has an amendment to the NEC the GC is wrong

BTW, we have members as well as a moderator from the Seattle area, I'm sure they will let us know if there is a local code.

Nothing in the WAC or RCW rules on it. I have don't it for a run to a cadet and it passed inspection

From what you've stated it's obvious GC's are not the best source of electrical code information. For the record that would be either a 240 volt or 208 volt circuit.

Wiremold has the same basic rules as EMT. There is no 120v limitation.

Point of clarity: GC told me that his electrician said that. It’s an integrated outfit that does all under one roof.

460 or 480 are acceptable. 220 ( and 110) have been obsolete for many decades. It's either a voltage of 208 or 240.

Could probably be 550 or 600 volts in the wire mold.

Note, 386.12 (2) uses not permitted.

Might be simpler to point out that if 120 v is ok, then 208 and 240 are 120 v to ground
