I have a job to bid:
Detached garage, residential.
Existing 1x 15A circuit
Add 60A EVSE

Looking here:
225.30 Number of Supplies.
A building or other structure that is served by a branch circuit or feeder on the load side of a service disconnecting means shall be supplied by only one feeder or branch circuit unless permitted in 225.30(A) through (F).

A) Special Conditions.
Additional feeders or branch circuits shall be permitted to supply the following:
  • (7)
Electric vehicle power transfer systems listed, labeled, and identified for more than a single branch circuit or feeder
So is a typical 240V evse included? I am finding the wording a bit ambiguous/confusing.

Would the resulting job be:
Run underground raceway to a switch/DC adjacent to existing circuit's then to evse. Ignore existing circuit otherwise. Check there is GEC for structure.
?

Or do I need to include existing circuit in raceway and repull to a subpanel?

Most EV chargers need a disconnect anyway.
That's not actually correct. 2023 NEC 625.43 starts off "For EVSE and WPTE rated more than 60 amperes or more than 150 volts to ground, the disconnecting means shall be provided and installed in a readily accessible location." Most EVSE are supplied at 120V to ground, so a disconnect is only required for EVSE above 60A (which would require a circuit rated above 75A).

Cheers, Wayne

True. In this case it would require one as a feeder entering the building though regardless, right?

Just a question of whether a subpanel is a firm requirement or if 225.30 allows 1 ev feeder in addition to a single 15a circuit.

Fun side question: if this was an attached garage and if I place the existing 15a circuit in the new raceway and into a subpanel, does it require an afci given I reused the existing wires and didn't move the outlet?
