225.31 Disconnectiong Means.

Are they talking about FEEDERS, Branch Circuits or all of the above?

If I run a 12-3 uf to a outbuilding, 1 ckt to a gfi receptacle, 1 ckt for lighting do I need a disconnect for that receptacle circuit?

So is that receptacle not a disconnect ?

Nope.

You won't find a service rated receptacle or an exception that allows a receptacle to serve as the disconnecting means for this application.

What do most people find easier, when wiring a outbuilding with only a multiwire branch circuit, just a 2 pole switch??? I have to confess I've never installed a disconnect for a receptacle circuit before... always just assumed it was okay since I was taught that way from more than 1 contractor...

A couple toggle switches would do just fine. :)

George wouldn`t you need some type of handle tie to break both conductors on a MWBC if toggle switches are used ???

IMO the rational for requiring a handle tie is so that if one part of the MWBC is de-energized there is no possibility that the other part will have a neutral load from the energized part.

225.33 B allows a common handle tie on single pole switches........Would the code panel allow something to be required that isn`t manufacturered ????

Oh that`s right the new afci protection requirement isn`t available also.........

I guess they would after all...................................................

Do they make a handle tie for SPST switches ???? I`ve never seen them.
How about a [simple double-pole switch...]
