I have been doing a forum search on art. 225.33, and I am confused.
I have a 30 amp sub feed to a shed that houses the pool equipment. The
sub feed is from a garage sub panel. I have 1 DP & 2 SP circuit breakers
in the shed sub panel. I don't have a main breaker. Is this code compliant?

edit: re-read 225 just now. I think it is. Anyone agree or disagree?
I disagree. You need a 'main breaker' at this 'seperate building' as per 2005 NEC 225.32 Location

NEC 225.32 Location said:
The disconnection means shall be installed either inside or outside of the building or structure served or where the conductors pass through the building or structure. The disconnecting means shall be at a readily accesible location nearest the point of entrance of the conductors

Also read 408.36 (A) about no more than 2 main circuit breakers for lighting panels.

Along with that I suggest reading 225.30 through 225.40.

IMO you are not meeting all the requirements of those sections.

Bob, Admittingly my brain doesn't seem to be working well this morning, but I fail to see the problem. Can you enlighten me?

408.36 (A) about no more than 2 main circuit breakers for lighting panel used to put a nail in this coffin, but with that removed in '08, I can't see the violation.

Look at the wording of 408.34(A) for "lighting and appliance branch-circuit panelboard", and the wording of 408.34 (second sentence of the first paragraph), and you will see that one does not have to supply lighting for it to be a "lighting and appliance panelboard", and one can supply just lighting for qualification of being a "power panelboard" - of course for those using other than the 2008 NEC - which is still most of the country.

So what is your opinion pierre of the o.p. question, is he compliant or not??

I forgot to mention that we are on the 2002 code. Spoke to AHJ today
and he said 250.33 is for services only, that 225.31 requires a main breaker for a sub panel. Still not sure.

George,

It doesn't have to be a main circuit breaker, a disconnecting means is what it

says. In your case a two pole 30a disconect switch will work.
