I'm not sure where you are from, but in most places, an apprentice card is not the same thing as a license. Are you working under the supervision of a journeyman, master electrician, or an electrical contractor?

Is it a Sq. D 6-space? If it is, they have the hot and neutral lugs arranged in a way that would make it easy to confuse the two.

yep I've made that mistake more than once I'm afraid; never brought one hot like that fortunately as I caught the mistake right after making it.
