I hear this all the time on here. I guess that a lot of people don't understand that the more people that you can spread the overhead out over reduces the amount of overhead per person in the field. If 1 guy is trying to absorb all the overhead, its not all that easy. Maybe if someone has a wife that does the books and takes care of dealing with the accountant, insurance, permits, ect. but not a single person trying to deal with all that. Overhead at that point includes job management IE trips to the permit office, print takeoffs, a lot more than jumping merrily into a van and going to go do your 8.

Excellent point. I have to keep my overhead low because I have to do all the admin myself. Trips to the supply house, permits, inspections, chasing customers for money, estimates, answering the phone, accounting, etc. are all done by me alone, and they all take time away from me doing actual electrical work.
