At the straw ballot meeting yesterday, this proposal wsa reversed. It appears that there will be no change to this section after all, assuming that the panel maintains its position.

Man, I'm glad I don't have any money riding on the decision of the panel...

I'm starting to think they should broadcast the meetings on pay-per-view and hire famous commentators to give the play by play update.

I'd rather watch that then some crappy Boxing match!!

The question is if the NEC will continue to allow a grounded conductor to serve as the EGC to a separate building or structure.

IMO as long every service in the USA uses that method it makes no sense to prohibit it on the load side of the service disconnecting means.

As Don would point out, apparently electrons behave differently on each side of a service disconnect.

On the line side parallel paths for unbalanced neutral currents are required.

On the load side they are feared.

Yes that is puzzling. As we all know, it used to be safe to use the neutral for a grounding conductor for a stove or dryer, but not any more.

Could be it is no longer safe to use a 3 wire feed to a garage.

In their defense, I think they are right going with separate grounding conductors to outbuildings. Of course that opinion and $3 will get yo a cup of yuppie coffee :)

(edited to delete demeaning comment about mfg lobbying and shorted sighted managers)

Except in Washington state (and New Mexico) as we have a state code rule that hasn't allowed this since August of 2003.

Are you saying that the power company supplies a separate neutral and ground?
