My question has to do with the beat to death subject of concrete encased electrode.I am going to do a footing inspection this afternoon for a single family attached dwelling. This is the same thing as a duplex but they are separately owned.
Do I have the footing contractor leave a piece of rebar exposed in each property? The footing will be continuous through the entire structure. They will be separately metered. My concern is creating a path for current flowing through the rebar in the footing. My instinct is to have them stub out a rebar for each side.Just like the water, they will each have their own water service. It seems like we are grounding to a lot of things and it seems like we are creating circulating currents.

Re: 250.50

If its one foundation one #4 soild copper wire 20' in lenght would do, just make sure the concrete is in direct contact with earth, and not sitting on a vapor barrier, and steel is not coated that it nullifies the conductivity.

Yes it is just one foundation. But their are going to be two panels and two meters. Two complete seperate services.
How is this any different than a city wide metal water pipe system?
Your right that's what I was trying to say in my original post.Thats why I think that their should be two points of attachment to the electrode. One going to each panel.
