Dan are you sure the lamp is 277 volt A19 100 watt?

The reason I ask is that appears as if it would be a violation of 210.6(C).

I am still wondering what applications the NEC would allow the use of a 277 med base lamp. 210.6(C) seems to prohibit it.

we would mess around with 277 and 480 in high school. we had 277 volt lamps up high that we would control with different switches and all that good stuff. i never used a 277 volt incandecant in the real world though. if i needed a bulb above a fire extinguisher or above the master box outside or whatever id just use 120. what happens when the janitor replaces the burned out lamp with a 120 volt one?

thats correct but what about the lamps on the page that was posted before http://www.vosslighting.com/storefr...action=prepare_detail&itm_id=5401&itm_index=0

From your link

Description

INCANDESCENT LAMP, 100 W; 277 V; SHAPE DESIGNATION A21; CC9 FILAMENT; MEDIUM BASE; FROST; INTENSITY 1070 LUMEN; OVERALL LENGTH 5-5/16 INCH; LIFE 1000 HR; APPLICATION MINE; STANDARD PACKAGE 120

The NEC does not apply to mines so that would make sense why they make these.

i never worked in a mine and i never known that the nec didnt apply there. are there any nfpa code books for mines?

90.2(B)(2) tells us the NEC does not apply to underground mines and some above ground equipment.

I am really not sure what standard they use for mines.

I don't think there are too many mines on Cape Cod.

Well there is the Cape Cod Canal tunnel. ;)

Most of the 277V incdentscet bulbs I useally run into normally are mogual based but yeah you can find them in med base as well unless the luminaire did warn a marking to warn the person this luminarie is wired for 277v

If someone put in 120 v indcenset bulb in 277 v it will be super bright and burn out in matter in minutes some case explolded depending on wattage and type of filment.

Merci,Marc
