277 volt standards

Hi guys

Can you give me some feedback?
I installed some 277 volt rated LED lights on a system that measured 281 volts. After about a year, several of the lights failed and kept failing. Then after measuring the voltage over a period of two weeks, it showed spikes of over 300 volts on weekends. So who is at fault here? Should I not have assumed 277 volt rated would be fine? Should 277 rated handle this with some wiggle room? Should the power company be liable?

I have never used 277v led but the 120v led's have quite a range of voltage that it will work with. I would be surprised that even 300 v would be an issue.

The LEDs now a days have a range from 100 - 277 volts. It is pretty common. I would think if it is ratted 277, that it should work on what 277 volt systems would provide. I wonder if it is normal for 277 to flex that high and how sensitive are other 277 volt devices.

280V is pretty average in my fair city. 300V is high.

Do you know how long the spikes last?

What brand LED?

For the L-N voltage to be 300V, the L-L would have to be roughly 520V. Utilities are supposed to adhere to +-5%, so 504V max. You need to record it and call the utility, it’s out of spec.

Where is the voltage being regulated? Is there an onsite xformer?
