277v to a lamp holder

I have a pole light that is 15' tall. It is a 70w metal halide fixture.

Can I remove the metal halide ballast and install an LED lamp in the medium base socket. The LED lamp would have a self contained driver. I would need to remove the ballast and direct wire the lamp holder with 277v.

Would this meet code?
