Is it acceptable to mount a Fan Coil Unit above a 4160 dry-type transformer in a small electric room? A drip pan will be provided under the Fan Coil Unit.
Thank you for the reply. It doesn't look right to me either. The potential of water dripping onto the 5kV transformer, a maintenance tech possibly standing on the transformer to change the FCU filter, violation of dedicated space above the transformer, etc. But, NFPA 70 only addresses dedicated space above switchgear, motor control centers, etc. it does not say anything about dedicated space above a transformer.I am sure this is not code compliant, but even if it was, it would not be a good idea to put a possible water source over a 4160 transformer.
The product data does not list the enclosure rating. Here is what I see... 3PH, 5kV, General Purpose Dry Type, Indoor, Case FWhat is the enclosure rating on the transformer ?? Our POCO has several 4160 dry transformers located outdoors & subject to abuse with no serious problems
A lot of 4160 transformers are located outside in the weather.I am sure this is not code compliant, but even if it was, it would not be a good idea to put a possible water source over a 4160 transformer.
