Re: 3 phase 4 wire?

You should save up and hire an experienced electrician. The information, you are furnishing, does not compute. Sorry

Re: 3 phase 4 wire?

thanks bennie. anything else i can tell you that might give more info. i am really over budget and would like to take care of this myself.

Re: 3 phase 4 wire?

Your post does not make sense. You are asking how to hook up a 208 VAC 3-phase air conditioner, to a single phase circuit. I bet your electrician is looking at you with a puzzeled look.

A 3-phase air conditioner needs a 3-phase circuit. IF this is a residance with 240/120 single phase service you are going to need a transformer to connect your 3-phase AC. It ain't cheap.

Re: 3 phase 4 wire?

I'm sorry, It would not be ethical for me to get involved. Your profile indicates you are a contractor. I assume a building contractor.
Sad to say, but building contractors were my biggest problem when I was working.

I worked too hard trying to become an electrician, to spend time instructing someone who already has a profession. No offense intended but that's how I am.

I agree! You try to help a GC, then he thinks after one lession he is an expert and does not use you anymore, he starts wiring himself. He would probably be the first to complain when a 'homeowner' does his own carpentry.

I had an experience last summer where the GC wired a disposal in the kitchen I had wired. There was a fire in the kitchen and after inspection of the fire it was proven that the disposal is where it started. The homeowner said the GC installed it to save her some money, because I was too expensive. OH WELL! There was about $25,000 dollars in damage, last time I looked, my prices were a little (not too much) lower than that :D .

Pierre: I am the least one with a right to sell out my friends and fellow tradesmen.
I draw a pretty good pension check as a result of my past 50 years.(another song title) :)
For me to sit here retired, and comfortable, and then give away work that someone out there may need, is highly irresponsible.

Re: 3 phase 4 wire?

I agre with ypou 100% Bennie. It is probably even against the local city regulations for the GC to be doing electrical work. Hmmm... spose his liability insurance is all paid up??? :D Sorry your not getting the answer you want but CALL your electrician.

Re: 3 phase 4 wire?

thanks for all your help guys. i got it fixed by calling an electrican. i appreciate ya'll talking me out of it. far beyond anything i could have done.

Re: 3 phase 4 wire?

Bennie, OUTSTANDING POSTs, general contractors, are certainly in a class by themselves, They know everything until they run up against a wall and expect the other trades to bail them out.
They quote a job, and try to do everything included the electric, after telling the customer that, "Oh the electrician is wrong you dont need an electrical permit just for a room addition" and sadly to say the poor customer believes them until the new addition is burning.

Re: 3 phase 4 wire?

colt,
What is wrong? you come here to gripe about G.C.'s almost a month after I ammitted fault. I thought this fourm was for all in the building trades to get advise and help. It sounds like you are just a grumpy JACKASS. Don't be bitter at me if you can't make a living. If you were really good at what you do a G.C. colud not talk a homeowner out of getting a permit. It is all on you.
