i am wiring a wood shop, using a 1 phase to 3 phase converter, (a first for me) and am curious about the neutral. None of the machines need a neut, but should i have a neut in the 3 ph. panel? if so, where is it supplied from?

You would not have a usable neutral point, so ignore it.

Actually your non-manufactured legs would still have their original common point, but why complicate things. I have always favored keeping the 120/240V 1PH 3W portion of a high-leg system in its own panel.
