3 Phase to single phase converter

I got a ice cream machine at a restaurant that the owner bought and it is 3 phase 208-230 volt and 25 amps per side. It has two sides at the same rating.

She only has 120/240 single phase. I called my supply house for a phase converter and they had one for $2800. I think she dropped the phone when I told her.

Do any of you guys know were I could order one that is not so expensive. Or have any of you ever had to use one?

Do I go off the amp rating and it will work, I know they are HP rated. I have never installed one so looking for some advice.

Any help would be great.

Tell her to return the machine, there is no cheap way to provide about 18KW of three phase from single phase.

By the way at 240 single phase this will be about 75 - 80 amps if both sides are really drawing 25 amps each at 208 three phase.

25 amp per side is not a clear way of stating a load, if your saying it draws 25 amps per leg, and the machine takes two feeds at 25 amps, this would be a total load of 50 amps, per leg, which like Bob said would be a load of 18kva, that is large load, and would require doing a calculation of the service load to even think about adding it to the service @ 75 amps, a roto phase converter will be expensive, and a lower cost static, electronic unit might cause problems if the ice cream machine has sensitive electronic controls, and the fact a static unit will cause motor loads to run at 70% of their rated output.

Try contacting the utility and see if they have a more cost effective solution, I know here we can install a 100 amp 7 jaw service for add on 3 phase 208/120 volt loads, but that is only if 3 phase is even available in the area.
